Memory in Motion: Images, Archives, and Lives

This screening brings together four independent Chinese films that explore memory not as a fixed record, but as something constantly reconstructed through images, voices, and lived experience. From Feng Yan's patient observational documentary Bingai and Wang Bing's austere oral history Fengming: A Chinese Memoir, to the intimate self-portrait and stop-motion experiments of Confessions of a Mole and the dreamlike, hybrid fiction of Panda, the four films move between documentary, personal essay, and fiction. Together, they ask how cinema can preserve fragile memories, confront the traces of history, and transform private experiences into shared images.
